Repair / Service Policy

Definitions: For the purposes of this policy "you" and "your" shall refer to the owner or responsible party for the computer, item, or peripheral being repaired. "We" or "us" refers to Computer Trades Unlimited or its agents or subcontractors.

Rates

Computer Hardware: $65.00 per hour
Computer Software:* $65.00 per hour
Diagnostic: $32.50 flat fee if repair is not completed.
Laptops /Notebooks: $65.00 per hour
Printers: $65.00 per hour
On-Site Service: $65.00 per hour including travel time.
$65.00 Minimum charge
Appointments: Call in advance to schedule same day service
Rush service fee:** $95.00 plus labor & parts

Please note all fees are in US Dollars.
All Labor rates and parts are subject to CT State sales & use tax of 6%.
Labor is charged in 15 minute increments with a minimum half hour charge of $32.50

Important:

We require that you have a current backup of all data on your computer before any repairs are made. This should include all copies of software and its associated "working files". We will not be responsible for and you shall hold us harmless for any data lost, damaged, or otherwise corrupted in a repair.

Time estimate:

Repairs are done "first come -- first served" basis, except for appointments and rush service. Usually there is a 3 to 5 day wait (sometimes longer) before we can start on your repair. Please ask about the current backlog. If parts are needed which are not in stock, your repair will take longer to finish. Contacting you for authorization can add to your repair time as well. We may require a deposit on parts we order for the repair before these parts are ordered. We require that you notify us in advance if you want the return of any non-repairable parts before we perform the repair.

Diagnostics:

Most computers and peripherals can be repaired with standard industry replacement parts. You should, however, understand that certain desktop computers and the vast majority of laptop / notebook computers require proprietary hardware. The charge for diagnostics is based on an initial observation of your problem(s) (often determined in about 20 minutes) and includes a brief description of your problem and a possible solution (if available) with a cost estimate for parts and labor. It is possible that further parts and labor charges could become necessary due to unforeseen problems. In this event, we will notify you of any additional charges or options provided the repair will be over $65.00.

When you bring your computer or peripheral for service, you agree to pre-authorize us for one hour's labor charge to diagnose and / or repair your problem. If the repair will take longer than 1 hour's labor charge or require parts and labor exceeding one hour's labor charge, you will be contacted for your authorization before work proceeds. Should you determine that you do not wish to repair the problem a non-refundable $32.50 fee shall apply to all items.

Storage charge:

We will make every attempt to contact you when your repair is complete. If you plan to be out of town or otherwise unavailable please let us know. After 30 days, we will impose a $25 per week storage fee. After 60 days the item and all associated data on that item will become the property of Computer Trades Unlimited and shall, at our option, constitute liquidated damages for repairs performed to the item. A service charge of 1 and 1/2% per month shall be imposed on account balances exceeding 30 days.

Payment:

A valid and matching driver's license is required for all checks. There is a minimum of $30.00 charged with all returned checks for insufficient or uncollected funds.

We accept all major credit cards.


No mechanics lien shall be considered released until all funds for payment of a repair or upgrade have cleared regardless of which party has physical possession of the repaired or upgraded item.

Notes:

* Computer Software problems can not always be resolved. Some software will not function well in certain situations, including hardware incompatibility, due to problems in the software code. Often, substitution of a different piece of hardware can solve the problem. In the event we can not fix the software problem, you may need to contact the software manufacturer. We will not be responsible for damage to software and its functionality. We will not be responsible for software that is not properly licensed from its manufacturer.


** Rush Serve fee: We will begin your repair on the next business day. the rush service is only available if we have free appointment time. However, as with any repair, parts availability and shipping may slow the repair.
